On the left, Mike Marshall’s photo of a Mountain Bluebird perched on a branch beside a pine trunk, in a slightly tilted white Polaroid-style print captioned Mountain Bluebird. From the print’s edge the photo breaks into a curving stream of colored pixel squares, light streaks and binary code that arcs across the dark teal background and gathers in a soft glow at an iPhone on the right showing the FeatherDex species grid, landing on the same bluebird’s badge. Centered between them, above the arc, are the FeatherQuest logo, a thin gold rule and the word FeatherDex in aqua italic

Import Your eBird Life List

Three steps, and you review everything first

Your Life List, Ready on Day One

If you already log your sightings in eBird, you don’t have to rebuild your life list by hand. Import it once, and FeatherDex marks those species as Seen or Heard, with their first and last encounter dates, alongside the photos you’ve taken.

Imported dates can show on your species badges, and filters like Seen but Not Photographed turn your list into photo goals. Start in Discovery → Import eBird Life List, or in Settings.

Bring Your eBird Life List

Three steps, and you review everything first

1. Download From eBird

FeatherDex walks you through exporting your World Life List from eBird as two files, First Seen and Last Seen.

2. Preview Before You Import

You see a preview before anything is saved. Hybrids, “sp.” entries and anything else that doesn’t match cleanly are held for you to review instead of guessed.

3. Seen or Heard, Your Call

Imported species are marked Seen by default. Switch any of them to Heard, or both, before you finish.

What FeatherDex Keeps

  • Species and dates only. FeatherDex keeps each species and its first and last dates, not your checklists or their locations.
  • It adds, it doesn’t wipe. The import merges with what’s already in FeatherDex, and you see a preview first.
  • One direction. FeatherDex reads your eBird export. It doesn’t send anything back to eBird or sync with your account.
  • English export. Imports are tested with eBird’s English-language life list files.
  • eBird is optional. You don’t need an eBird account to use FeatherDex. Seen can also come from your photos or be set by hand.
